National Youth Inter Area 2014

On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014 over 200 of the countries most talented youth players took part in the England Korfball Association’s National Youth Inter-Area competition held at Harrow Leisure Centre.

 

Teams from Cambridge, Kent, London, Norfolk, North-West London and South Midlands competed to find the best region within England. The tournament was split into four age groups; under 11, under 14, under 16 and under 19.

 

Speaking before the event, Phil Edwards, Everyone Active General Manager at Harrow Leisure Centre said: “We are pleased and privileged to host and support the English Inter Area Youth Championships,”

 

Over the last 12 months korfball has expanded significantly across North-West London thanks to Sportivate funding and a grant from Sport England. Korfball has been taught to over 2,000 young people between the ages of 10 and 25.

 

Korfball has been introduced to fourteen primary schools and sixteen secondary schools in and around North West London, with a number of schools now including korfball as part of their GCSE programs.

 

Head of PE at Harrow High said. “I have never seen the girls play with so much confidence with boys in the same team….. we will continue with this sport”

 

The competition for under 14 and under 19 teams took place on Saturday 25 January with the medals presented by England Korfball Senior Coach Dave Buckland.

 

UNDER 14 final placings: 1st: Kent, 2nd: London, 3rd: Cambridge, 4th: Norfolk, 5th: NW London, 6th London B, 7th: Norfolk B, 8th: Cambridge B, 9th: South Midlands.

 

UNDER 19 final placings: 1st: Kent, 2nd: London, 3rd: Cambridge, 4th: NW London.

On Sunday 26 January, the final day of the event it was the turn of the under 11 and under 16 teams with the medals presented by England senior International Davesh Patel.

 

UNDER 11 final placings: 1st: Kent, 2nd: Cambridge, 3rd: Norfolk, 4th: London, 5th Norwich B, 6th: NW London, 7th: Cambridge B, 8th: South Midlands

 

UNDER 16 final placings: 1st: Norfolk, 2nd: Kent, 3rd: London, 4th: NW London, 5th: South Midlands.
