Legal & General announced as headline sponsor for England Korfball Grand Finals
Legal & General have today announced that they are sponsoring the England Korfball Association’s Grand Finals.
The Legal & General England Korfball Grand Finals will see the country’s best players return to London’s iconic Copper Box Arena over the 1-2 June 2019 for the highlight of the Korfball season.
Legal & General’s renewed commitment to the sport follows their sponsorship and support for the 2018 National Schools Championships, where the best teams from the UK’s primary schools competed for the coveted accolade of National Schools Champions.
Legal & General will also be supporting England Korfball to engage the nation in korfball, through a programme of promotional activities in schools, universities and workplaces.
The UK’s only truly gender-diverse sport
Korfball is a unique mixed gender sport, consisting of teams of four men and four women. In a game that shares its roots with basketball, all players collaborate to score goals by shooting into a basket while trying to prevent the opposition from scoring.
Korfball is recognised by the International Olympic Committee, the International World Games Association and Sport England. England Korfball partners with #ThisGirlCan (while recognising that #ThisBoyCanToo).
Ellen Pearce, Chair of England Korfball, said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Legal & General as major partners of England Korfball. At a time when inactivity levels and social isolation are rising, we know that Korfball has a key role to play in bringing gender equality to the heart of the sporting world and in combating societal challenges. The support from Legal & General will make possible a range of initiatives that will deliver greater participation, particularly at school, university and corporate levels”.
Legal & General’s commitment to pitch parity
Legal & General’s sponsorship of the event is part their on-going programme of activities and initiatives designed to encourage meaningful inclusion and equality. Legal & General are long-term supporters of the 30% Club, The Diversity Project and the Women in Finance Charter.
Dame Helena Morrissey, Head of Personal Investing at Legal & General Investment Management, Chair of the Diversity Project and Founder of the 30% Club, commented
“Korfball is such a wonderful sport and we’re delighted to sponsor the Grand Finals. This is a real opportunity to see how men and women can work together as team mates and true peers in a competitive setting. On a personal level, I’m delighted that we can support the tournament having seen my daughter Millie play for her university and after working closely some years ago with the organisers of the Oxford Cambridge Boat Races to help achieve equality for the Women’s Race. Korfball is not just encouraging women to participate in sports, but to be raised up as equals. It’s fun to watch and a brilliant game that captures real gender equality”.
