Bec top their pool after 15-14 win against CK Vallparadis
Bec Korfball (Tooting, London) made it three wins from three with a 15-14 win over CK Vallparadis from Catalonia. The result means that Bec have finished in 1st place in Pool A at the IKF Europa Shield 2020.
The IKF Europa Shield takes place between 24 – 26 January 2020 in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. Bec are the reigning champions after winning Gold in Prostějov, Czech Republic last year.
Bec made the perfect start to the defence of their title with a 12-14 victory over GDD Bons Dias on Friday evening and earlier today Bec beat TuS Schildgen from Germany 20-21.
Bec vs CK Vallparadis
In a relatively low scoring match, there was little to separate the teams. Bec went into the half-time break leading 5-4 with goals from Rachel Turner (2), Joe Bedford (2) and Billy Ashby.
Going into the last minute of the match the scores were level at 13-13… with just 27 seconds to go Kenzie BALDOCK scored from the sidelines, in what everyone thought was the match winning goal.
Everyone except for Vallparadis’ Laura TOBARUELA RUIZ who managed to pass her opponent and scored a running-in goal (14-14) with just 16 seconds left on the match clock.
Bec’s captain Davesh Patel restarted the match from the centre line… Bec passed the ball six times before Joe BEDFORD found himself in space. Bedford’s shot dropped through the korf with just 6 seconds to go (15-14).
Vallparadis had 6 seconds to score.. But they were unable to get a shot away. The buzzer for the end of the match signalled and Bec’s squad ran onto the pitch to celebrate.
Joe Bedford top scored for Bec with 7 goals, with Rachel Turner top scoring for Bec’s female players with 3 goals.

Pool B includes 2018 champions, KV Adler Rauxel e.V. (GER) along with Korfbal Klub Brno (CZE), Kocaeli University Sport Club (TUR) and KS Defenders Korfball Wroclaw (POL).
