Bec through to Europa Shield final after 16-13 win against Brno

Bec Korfball (Tooting, London) are through to the final of the IKF Europa Shield for the 6th consecutive year after a 16-13 victory in the semi-final against Brno Korfball Club from the Czech Republic.

The IKF Europa Shield takes place between 24 – 26 January 2020 in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. Bec are the reigning champions after winning Gold in Prostějov, Czech Republic in 2019..

Bec went into the half-time break with a comfortable 9-5 lead, with goals from Billy Ashby (2), Catlin Fitzgerald, Davesh Patel (2), Joe Bedford (3) and Heather Ikwuemesi.

Brno made a brilliant start to the second half, scoring four of the next five goals. After taking the lead for the first time in the match (10-11) on 23 minutes Bec coach John Denton called a time-out in an attempt to focus his team.

It was now Bec’s turn to score the next four of the next five goals in the match, with goals from Blake Palfreyman, Heather Ikwuemesi, Jo Anne Wilson and Rachel Turner (14-12).

The game was then put beyond the reach of Brno with Ikwuemesi and Wilson scoring again.

Heather IKWUEMESI and Joe BEDFORD shared the top goal scorer accolade with three goals each.

Bec are now guaranteed a medal at the IKF Europa Shield, we just need to wait until 3pm to find out what colour it will be!
