England 2022 Youth Inter-Area Championships delayed

The 2022 England Korfball Youth Inter-Area Championships have been postponed. The event was due to take place at the Harrow Leisure Centre in London between 22-23 January.

Thank you to the Areas who responded to the consultation regarding attendance at the Youth Inter Areas 2022 and the likely mitigations that would need to be in place in order for us to safely deliver the event.

We have reviewed the responses, alongside the precautions required to protect everyone attending the event while we are in the current context of high national rates of Covid-19 infection. In addition, the impact of teams having to pull out of the event at the last moment due to players and officials contracting Covid-19, on the already lower than normal expected team entries, has also been considered.

Having undertaken this review, regretfully we have come to the decision that due to the impact of Covid-19 the event will need to be postponed to later this year. This is in order to ensure we are able to deliver a safe and enjoyable event that all who wish to attend can do so.

We understand the impact of the last two years on young people’s access to korfball and it is with much sadness that we have to postpone this event.

We are expecting to reschedule and confirm new dates to support planning and attendance by as many areas as possible. Our expectation is that we will shortly confirm dates for a spring/early summer Junior Inter-Area weekend and are consulting with the Areas for feedback on any local constraints for new dates. 

We would also additionally consult on having the event outdoors as a fall back option (dependent on future Covid-19 infection rates and guidance).

Please share our apologies and empathy to everyone who was hoping to attend, and we look forward to seeing everyone a little later in the year. We also hope that by postponing, those that were not in a position to attend this January will be able to send teams.
