London leagues round-up

Three leagues, nine clubs, 27 teams- the London Korfball League has drawn to a close after another exciting season. Congratulations to Trojans 2, Bromley 1 and Croydon 4 on winning their respective leagues.

LONDON REGIONAL LEAGUE

  • Winner: Trojans 2
  • Top male scorer: Terry Forde (Nomads 2) – 67
  • Top female scorer: Bethany Penhaligon (Bec 2/3) – 43

It was a final day top-of-the-table clash which decided London’s top league – Bec 2 played Trojans 2, with the winner taking the title. And it was Trojans who pipped Bec to the crown with a 24-22 win.

Nomads 2 and Highbury 1 made up the rest of the top four, both losing just four matches during the season. Highbury as the top placed 1st team in the league will compete in the England Korfball League Promotion Division next season along with Croydon 1 who drop down from the Korfball Premier League.

Croydon 2, Supernova 1, Nomads 3, Bec 3 and Mitcham 1 completed the Regional League line-up.

LONDON LEAGUE TWO

  • Winner: Bromley 1
  • Top male scorer: Mark Drew (Bromley 1) – 48
  • Top female scorer: Susan Wright (Croydon 3) – 37

Three teams were in the running right to the final few weeks of the season. It was Bromley 1 who beat the competition from Highbury 2 and Croydon 3 to top the table and take a place in the Regional League for next season.

There were some exciting matches played between the top three with Highbury beating both Bromley and Croydon away but losing to both sides at home; Bromley and Croydon playing out an exciting draw, and crucially Bromley beating Croydon 14-9 earlier in the season.

Supernova 2 also performed well, finishing in 4th place – just above Supernova 3. The two teams new to the division, Highbury 3 and Croydon Swans, will be pleased with their placing – finishing 6th and 7th respectively. Nomads 4 and Bec 4 completed the line-up in 8th and 9th.

LONDON LEAGUE THREE

  • Winner: Croydon 4
  • Top male scorer: Richard Burrows (Nomads 5) – 34
  • Top female scorer: Dawn Aindow (Croydon 4/5) – 23

Croydon 4 topped London League Three, sewing up the title with a few weeks of the season still to go. In an evenly matched and unpredictable league, Nomads 5, Croydon 5 and Mitcham 2 made up the rest of the top four.

With just six points separating 2nd place and 7th – Bec 5 in 7th, Supernova 4 in 6th and Bromley 2 in 5th will be confident of challenging nearer the top of the table next season.

Highbury 4 and Trojans 3 completed the table in 8th and 9th respectively.
