Competition Structure Review

The England Korfball competition committee have been discussing the England Korfball League competitions plan for 2016-2019 and would welcome feedback from clubs and areas on the proposals.

For the 2014-15 season England Korfball introduced two new Promotional Divisions and reduced the number of teams in the Premier Division from 10 to 8.

The Promotional Divisions have received overall positive feedback since their introduction.

A number of options for the top league in the country were examined by the competitions committee;

  1. Maintain the current situation with 8 teams
  2. Increase the size of the EKL Premier Division to 9 teams
  3. Increase the size of the EKL Premier Division to 10 teams
  4. Increase the size of the EKL Premier Division to 12 teams, with parallel pools

After considering the pros and cons the competitions committee have initially rejected option 2 (increase to 9 teams) and option 4 (increase to 12). Leaving options 1 (maintain the current situation) or option 3 (revert to a 10 team league).

England Korfball welcome feedback from Clubs and Area Associations – we would like to hear from you before Monday, 6 June 2016 on these proposals.
