Korfballer wins University Sportswomen of the Year

Lizzie McCloud has won ‘Sportswomen of the Year’ at the University of Nottingham Sports awards.

 

There are over 40,000 students at the University of Nottingham. The 2016 event was the 30th annual Sports Ball.

 

Lizzie said: “I was thrilled to be nominated for Sportswomen of the Year.. and then I found out I had made the final shortlist alongside so many other talented athletes.

 

I was so surprised when I was announced as the winner! I’m truly honoured to get sportswomen of the year! I love that Korf is finally getting the recognition it deserves

 

McCloud is currently studying English and has been playing korfball for six years.. Before joining University of Nottingham Korfball Club, McCloud played for England Korfball Premier League club Norwich Knights Korfball Club.

 

The Sportswomen of the Year award isn’t the first award of the year for McCloud.. Earlier this year McCloud won a silver medal at the BUCS Korfball Finals and was voted as the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
