England Korfball Academy Programme for Youth Development & Performance

As part of its new long-term Performance Strategy, England Korfball are delighted to be announcing the commencement of the England Academy Youth Programme. This is a programme which will be transformational in both its approach and culture for England’s future talented athletes. Linking to the overall strategic vision for the performance programme for England, the Academy programme will deliver high quality coaching in high performance environments with the use of experts across a variety of sports performance fields.

Who is the programme for?

To be eligible for the Academy Youth Programme you have to be:

  • Be aged 15, 16 17 or 18 years old as from 01/07/2022
  • Hold a British passport
  • Have at least 1 years’ playing or training experience within a formalised Korfball setting e.g. club/school
  • up to 40 players (20 Boys and 20 girls)

The programme strongly welcomes attendance of youth coaches and teachers whose athletes are in attendance. We hope the sessions will provide a platform for professional development opportunities, new practices to take back to clubs and follow up education with the players.

Key dates & Locations:

10th December 2022: University of Birmingham Sports Centre, Birmingham.
11th February 2023: University of East Anglia, SportsPark, Norwich.
22nd & 23rd April 2023: David Ross High Performance Sports Centre & Jubilee Sports Centre, Nottingham.
24th & 25th June 2023: David Ross High Performance Sports Centre & Jubilee Sports Centre, Nottingham.
Date & Venue July TBC: IKF U17 World Championships
9th & 10th September 2023: Surrey Sports Park, Guildford.
Future dates, locations and move towards a regional model for delivery will be communicated nearer the time.

 

Accommodation & Costs of the programme:

The cost for being part of the Academy Programme is: £375. This includes:

  • Up to 8 hours per weekend of Korfball Specific Coaching & Training
  • Use of High Performance Gym facilities
  • Classroom based sessions on Athlete Education topics
  • Use of Strength & Conditioning programme, instructor at the venue and follow
    up.
  • Covers facilities hire, coach expenses and classroom support.
  • Travel which is required between any facilities being used e.g. sports centre to High performance gym
  • Water

It does not include:

  • Overnight accommodation
  • Travel
  • Food
  • EK Academy branded kit
  • Any additional activities such as Rock Climbing/Swim sessions which are offered as team building extras as part of the weekend delivery.

The programme represents a new and targeted approach to athlete centred development. England Korfball are delighted to offer athletes within this programme such a spread of expertise, not just across the 6 members of the korfball coaching team, but also through external expertise which is industry lead. The model for delivery has been designed with athletes at the centre of its approach and we believe creates a sustainable model for the future which can truly represent the potential of talent across the UK.
