EKL referees selected for IKF European Championship

England Korfball would like to congratulate Paul Jeanes (ENG) and Steve Jones (WAL) following their selection for the upcoming IKF European Korfball Championship in Portugal.

The European Championship will take place between Saturday 25 October and Sunday 02 November 2014 in Maia, Portugal.

Sixteen teams will participate; Belgium, Catalonia, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, The Netherlands, Turkey and Wales.

Paul Jeanes and Steve Jones regularly referee in the England Korfball League. Both Jeanes and Jones are IKF elite referees.

Jeanes and Jones have between them have been appointed on a number of major IKF finals in the last few years; including Europa Cup finals, World Games finals and Interland matches between Belgium and The Netherlands.

Craig Gosling, Chairman of England Korfball, said: “On behalf of everyone at England Korfball, I’d like to offer my congratulations to Paul and Steve on being selected for the IKF European Korfball Championships in Portugal.”

Commenting on the news of his selection, Steve Jones said: “All referees want to officiate on the highest stage, so it is a great honour for myself and Paul to be selected once again to referee at a major IKF finals.”

England finished in 6th place at the 2010 IKF European Korfball Championship with The Netherlands taking the Gold medal.
