Birmingham City retain EKL place
Birmingham City retain their status as an English Korfball League club after winning all four of their matches at the ‘Champions Trophy’ promotion tournament held last weekend (26 and 27 April 2014) at Whitgift Sports Centre in Croydon, South London.
Birmingham City won against Cambridge Tigers (8-4), Manchester Warriors (15-5), Bristol Thunder (19-3) and Highbury (9-4).
Speaking shortly after the final match, player/coach of Birmingham City Korfball Club, Jess Beale said: “We are thrilled to have maintained our position in the top flight of English korfball. The hard work and preparation throughout the squad meant that everyone featured across the weekend. Although at times we struggled to get into our stride, I was particularly pleased with our performances against local rivals Warriors and 2nd placed Bristol Thunder. I have had a very enjoyable and rewarding first season as coach. I would like to thank and applaud the EKA for putting on such a well-run event.”
Player/Coach Jess Beale top scored for Birmingham City over the four matches with 11 goals. Beale was also the top female goal scorer for the whole event.
For the 2014/15 season the top flight of English Korfball will be known as the Premier Division.
