Bearsted, Bristol Thunder, Croydon and Nottingham qualify for playoffs

Following this weekends results in the North & West and South & East Promotion Divisions four teams have now qualified for the England Korfball end of season league playoffs.

From the North & West Promotion Division, Bristol Thunder qualified after their 31-9 victory over Manchester Warriors and Nottingham qualified with a 11-21 win away against Basingstoke Bulls.

The wins move Bristol Thunder and Nottingham onto 8 points each, with one match remaining in the league they can no longer be caught.

In the South & East Promotion Division, Bearsted from Kent and south London’s Croydon Korfball Club have achieved qualification for the playoffs.

Bearsted won a thrilling match on Sunday afternoon against Croydon 17-15. Bearsted drew level in the match for the first time with just 90 seconds remaining. Bearsted’s John Haggart then scored his fourth and fifth goals of the match to secure victory for the home team.

In the other match in the South & East Promotion Division Highbury won their match 10-19 at Cambridge Tigers.

With only one match remaining the South & East division both Cambridge Tigers and Highbury both on 3 points are unable to overtake Croydon who are currently in 2nd place in the table with 6 points.

The England Korfball League promotion play-offs will take place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May 2015 at Whitgift Sports Centre, Croydon.

The four teams from the Promotion Division will be joined by the team that finishes in 7th place in England Korfball’s Premier League in a five team play-off. The top two teams after the play-offs will win promotion to the top league in the country for the 2015/16 season.
