Zach Catterall is “Optimistic” about the Promotional Playoffs

Bearsted youngster Zach Catterall has embraced the chance to play in the England Korfball League this season and is keen to ensure he stays there.

The playoffs to retain their top flight status will be high pressure but Catterall has proved he can perform in big games for the England youth set-up. Not least when he popped up with the golden goal winner in the 3rd place playoff at the under 17 korfball world cup last year.

He also made six appearances for England in the recent Under 19s Korfball World Cup in The Netherlands.

Perfroms under pressure

16 year-old Catterall said: “I don’t have a vast amount of experience, but having played in high intensity matches for my country, I have learnt to perform under pressure and I know the big games at the playoffs will be no different.”

“I’m very optimistic about our chances at the playoffs.  We have the ability and squad depth to perform in every game and come out of the tournament with an unbeaten record. I think this would be the perfect confidence boost we need going into next season, to push forward and compete with the top teams.”

Competing in the top flight has been an excellent learning experience this season, despite Bearsted’s form which saw them lose all their matches. Catterall, who started playing korfball at the age of eight, has notched 15 goals in his nine appearances in his first season in the England Korfball League.

“This season has been incredibly rewarding for myself, not only because of my personal improvement, but because of the team’s progression over the whole season. As a unit, we have developed dramatically since the start of the year, and it puts us in a strong position for these crucial matches,” said Catterall.

“Preparations have been going swimmingly, we have been refining our tactics and training has been intense. If we turn up to the tournament and play the way we know we can, I’m confident Bearsted will be competing at the top level again next season.”
