UEA Korfball win Sports Club of the Year

The University of East Anglia Korfball club last night (Tuesday 25 March) won the award for Sports Club of the Year at the 2014 Union Awards.

UEA Korfball Club which was founded in 1989 currently has over 100 members who are regularly playing korfball in six teams, competing in all three divisions of the Norfolk league. The increase in members at UEA Korfball has increased dramatically in recent years thanks to a number of dedicated members.

UEA Korfball’s recent successes on the field include a BUCS Gold medal at the National Championships in 2013 which was followed by a silver medal in the 2014 event. UEA 2 also won Gold at the British Student Club Championships 2014.

Lizzie Reeves, Vice President of UEA Korfball said “We are extremely pleased to win this award, we weren’t expecting it but it’s a great way to finish the year as it represents all the hard work we have put into the club. We hope to continue this growth and success in the future”

Speaking about UEA Korfball the Union of UEA Students said: “Comments about the club overwhelmingly confirm it’s status as the most friendly, welcoming and inclusive club that sets the benchmark for all others. Coupled with their outstanding recent performances, they are deserved winners of the club of the year award”

BSKA Chairman Rob Bloomer said “I am very pleased to see one of our clubs getting the recognition they deserve. UEA is a great example of a student club that sets foundations as strong as any local club and their sport for all ethos leads to success in both growing their membership and performing at the highest level”

“As hosts of National Championships 2013 and 2014, the sheer number of volunteers supporting the event showed just how strong UEAKC is and how all it’s members get involved in supporting and running the club, which is a key factor in how it has grown its membership and retained a very loyal following. Well done to UEA on their fantastic achievements in recent years.’
