England 20-16 Germany

England beat Germany 20-16 on Sunday (26 October) evening in their second match of the European Korfball Championship to make it two wins from two so far in the tournament.

Blake Palfreyman top scored for England with 5 goals. Otto Fabius, Sytze Bijker and Davesh Patel all scored 4 goals each for England during the match.

The two teams met last at the 2010 European Championships with Germany winning by four goals, 15-11.

England’s captain for the match Davesh Patel commented after the victory “Immense performance from the team today. Kept our control and composure throughout the game much like yesterday.

“Whenever the Germans were able to gain momentum we were quick to counteract that and establish our momentum again whilst bringing theirs to a halt. The team is shaping up nicely and growing day by day.”

England coach Dave Buckland was thrilled with the result, he said simply “It was a very exciting game. A solid team performance both on and off the pitch”

The squad captain for England, Ben King said “We are extremely happy with such a convincing win against Germany. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow before we take a crack at the worlds best!”

In the other match in England’s group, The Netherlands won convincingly 41-17 against Russia.

England and The Netherlands top the group currently with 6 points each. The next game for England is against The Netherlands on Tuesday 28 October starting at 18:00 GMT.
