Europa Cup 2016 – Trojans win 42-23

Trojans won their opening match at the IKF Europa Cup comfortably beating Polish champions UKK WUM Warszawa 42-23.

 

Rafal Diakik was the first to score in the match for Warszawa. Quickly followed by Trojans’ David Brooks who scored seconds later.

 

Warszawa then scored three goals in three minutes to take an early 1-4 lead. Trojans player/ coach Johan Oosterling said: “They came out firing taking an early lead, scoring 4 from 7 shots”

 

Trojans remained calm.. and just minutes later the team from Croydon, South London had leveled the scores at 5-5.

 

Johny Nickerson scored Trojans’ sixth goal from the penalty spot (6-5) and from this point Trojans remained ahead in the match.

 

At half-time Trojans had built a comfortable lead 23-10.

 

Trojans went on to score a further 19 goals in the second half with the IKF commenting on the teams “commitment”.

 

Sam Brooks and Tony Woodvine top scored for Trojans with 6 goals each. England International Amy Turner was Trojans’ top female goal scorer with 5 goals.

 

Trojans are next in action tomorrow (Thursday, 14 January) against NC Benfica. The match starts at 14:00 GMT.
