Vogwill – Top Goal Scorer in the EKL
Charlie Vogwill says there is “no secret” behind his record-breaking goalscoring success in the England Korfball League – but admitted it is more than an individual effort.
The Norwich Knights star has 98 goals to his name in the EKL, putting him at the top of the all-time leaderboard.
Tomorrow, he heads to the K2 in Crawley to help the Knights hunt for the EKL title as they face Bec in the LFF Grand Finals.
Should they progress from this semi-final encounter, they will either face Kingfisher or Trojans, who are looking for a tenth straight title, in Sunday’s final.
When asked what his secret was behind his goalscoring exploits, Vogwill said: “There’s no secret, it’s about taking a lot of shots and scoring a high percentage of them.
“However, both of those things are all about the players around you.
“The people I play with rebound and assist as well as anyone in England so I can take a lot of shots.
“But our style means everyone attacks and everyone takes shots, it means there’s no shot clock pressure and I can be selective and take the chances when they come.”
Vogwill, who has played the sport since the age of 10, believes this season is the best chance the Knights have had to win the title, adding he wants to win it “more than anything else”.
If they do finish Sunday with the cup in hand, they will be the first team from outside of London or Kent to be crowned champions.
“We’ve played well in spurts this year, scoring 15 to 20 goals in a half, but not sustaining that level for a full game,” Vogwill said.
We have no fear
“You’re never going to be at 100 per cent for a full game, but I think if we can play to our potential for 45 to 50 minutes, we know we can compete with anyone.
“We’re untested in big games, but being such a young team, that can be positive.
“We have no fear.”
