EKL Premier League Round up
Another weekend and another instalment of the England Korfball Premier League. This weekend there were six matches with two matches for Nomads and Birmingham City.
NOMADS (22) v BIRMINGHAM CITY (15)
The first match in week 14 was played on Saturday, 15 February 2014 at Epsom College. Nomads overcame a difficult match against 8th placed Birmingham City. For the majority of the match Nomads were without the services of Ean Iriwn due to illness. Importantly for Nomads the goals were shared between the whole team, with Heather Ikwuemesi coming off the substitutes bench and scored three goals.
BEC (24) v KV (16)
Dave Buckland, Bec coach said “Very pleased with the team performance today. 4 games to go and the squad is really gelling in the run up to the playoffs.” Bec and England Senior International Joe Bedford top scored for Bec with nine goals. The win for Bec keeps the club at the top of the league, equal on points with rivals Trojans.
BEARSTED (6) v NOMADS (29)
“With two games back to back this weekend it was important to take maximum points. Against Birmingham City we didn’t take all the chances created but today against bearsted, on the larger pitch, we were able to dominate at both ends with better finishing. With 5 matches to go we’ve consolidated 3rd place in the league and remain on track for a play off place ” Nomads coach Dave Butters.
NORWICH KNIGHTS (14) v TROJANS (22)
“Trojans started the game strongly and took the game away from us. The second half reaction was very pleasing as we improved in all areas to win the second half with Vogwill scoring 7 open play goals.” Joe Stirling, Norwich Knights coach.

TORNADOES (18) v BIRMINGHAM CITY (11)
“We’ve upped our tempo going into the last few games of the season, playing some dynamic, creative korfball. The difference today came down to Tornadoes’ clinical finishing.” Jess Beale, Birmingham City player/coach.
“After a good 1st half performance. We made 3 changes in the second half to rest players, fourth game on the bounce and up into 5th position. I’m very happy” Corinne Buckland, Tornadoes player/coach.
“We made it four important wins in a row today, that’s another two points” Tornadoes and England Youth International, Dan Brown.
CROYDON (20) v KINGFISHER (25)
“20-25 a good exciting free scoring game of korfball which enabled kingfisher to use a number of young up and coming squad players; Sam Barnden and Liam Geddes. Croydon played well but kingfisher had too much in their arsenal” Chris Martin, Kingfisher player/coach
“We played really well today, there were times when we gave away a few too many penalties and that’s what allowed Kingfisher to pull away slightly but we kept fighting until the very end.” Croydon’s Chelsie Browne
The England Korfball Premier League returns on Sunday, 02 March 2014 with five matches in Kent and South London.
