Tornadoes (14) v Bec (20) – Referee: David Bond

The first of the matches in round 8 of the England Korfball Premier League pitched Corinne Buckland (Tornadoes Coach) against husband Dave Buckland (Bec Coach). On this occasion it was Dave Buckland’s team that took both points winning 14 goals to 20 with Blake Palfreyman top scoring for the visitors with five open play goals. Daniel Brown top scored for Tornadoes with six goals, with three from open play and three from the penalty spot.

The win for Bec keeps them at the top of the league table on 12 points – however Tornadoes drop one place into 5th in the league. Impressive stats for Bec’s male players this week, with the males scoring 18 out of the 20 goals against Tornadoes. Can Bec’s next opponents (Norwich Knights) contain the threat from Bec’s male players?

Norwich Knights (21) v Croydon (12) – Referee: Gary Cole

Norwich Knights continued their 100% win record with a convincing 21-12 win over Croydon Korfball Club in another match dominated by the male players on the scoresheet with 95% of Knights goals from the male players. Norwich Knight’s Ross Lenton top scored in the match with six open play goals.

Birmingham City (17) v Bearsted (12) – Referee: Alan Lewis

Birmingham City secured their second win of the league with a 17-12 victory over bottom placed side; Bearsted. Birmingham returned to winning ways after last weeks narrow defeat to Tornadoes (12-15). The two points from the keeps Birmingham in 8th place in the league table but importantly there’s now a vital gap between 8th and 9th place.

KV (12) v Nomads (17) – Referee: Paul Jeanes

The feature match of the day was between the sides in 6th and 5th places in the league table, KV and Nomads. The experienced Ana Osbourne (Nomads) top scored for the visitors with five goals, unusually Nomad’s danger man, Sytze Bijker, only managed to find the back of the basket on one occasion during the match. Nomads female players contributed over 76% of their teams goals in the match, something their opponents in the future will no doubt have noticed.

Kingfisher (14) v Trojans (27) – Referee: Paul Jeanes

Trojans maintained the pressure on league leaders (on goal difference), Bec KC, with a 14-27 victory over last seasons runners-up, Kingfisher. Trojan’s management team will be pleased to have overcome a potentially tricky encounter with goals being scored throughout the team. Top scorer for Trojans this week was Sam Brooks with seven goals, six from open play and one from a free pass. Top scorer for Kingfisher was England Youth International, Mallory Gore with four goals.
