Europa Cup 2016: Trojans 30-17 Marmara University

After Thursday’s disappointing defeat against Portuguese side NC Benfica, Trojans bounced back with a deserved 30-17 victory over Turkish champions, Marmara University Sports Club on Friday, 15 January 2016.

Speaking after the match, Amy Turner said: “Today was a good bounce back and reaction after yesterday’s disappointment, everyone got game time so we are prepared for tomorrow. There were lots of goals and good moments in the game to take forward.

“It’s now our responsibility to do the best we can do in the rest of the tournament”

Johan Oosterling: “We were back on form today with a very positive reaction from the players today to play the disappointment out of the system. The players felt bitterly disappointing from yesterday’s result and we knew that today wouldn’t be easy.

“The Turkish Champions came out quick firing 2 from 3 shots. We kept cool and took control of the game and was able to build a lead quickly. From then on we wanted to manage the energy expenditure for tomorrow’s match so we made the subs to accommodate for that.

“Scoring 30 goals at this level is simply a fantastic result and after the amount of goals scored against the Polish champions, Warszawa [42-23] we got confidence for tomorrow which will be a replay of last year’s 5/6th game and that game was decided by just only 1 goal.

“We expect a very close game and a real challenge to test our scoring ability against the athletic and agile Catalonians. No easy games at this level so I expect a really good match for the neutral spectators.”

Matthew Brooks top scored for Trojans with six goals. Inanc Cemil Demirel from Marmara top scored in the match with an impressive 10 goals.

Trojans final match at the Europa Cup 2016 will be against CK Vallparadis / Assessoria for 5th/6th place at 11:00 GMT on Saturday, 16 January 2016.
